GUIDE | los angeles

If you know me personally or follow me on { Instagram } you know that I am always in Los Angeles. I've had several friends ask me where I like to hangout when in the city so I thought I'd put together a quick list of my favorites haunts, stores, and cafes.

This post is a collaborative effort between me and my partner in crime and fellow food enthusiast, Moises Martinez, who runs the blog { Gastro-Site } on blogger.

Handsome Coffee Roasters

Coffee &Tea, Desserts
582 Mateo St.
Los Angeles, CA 90013
Neighborhood: Downtown
{ my post here }

J: Current favorite place for coffee. They keep their selection simple, so don't expect anything fancy.
They also don't carry any sugar, but it doesn't need any anyways.

M: This place is grounded on the idea that coffee should be respected and therefore shouldn't be
tampered with--so that you can actually taste what it's all about.

Poketo

Art Galleries, Accessories
820 E 3rd St
Los AngelesCA 90013
Neighborhood: Downtown

J: Best place for to get gifts. They sell a wide variety items ranging from accessories to home goods.
I always stop by for a look whenever I'm in the area.

M: Website brought life. Housing many of it's artisan chic & handma
de rustic merchandise/ware

Apolis

Men's Clothing, Accessories
806 E 3rd St
Los Angeles, CA 90013

Neighborhood: Downtown
{ my post here }

J: Fashion with a purpose! Apolis is a super cool boutique for men's clothing and accessories. This is
where I like to pick up the newest issue of Kinfolk mag, and while I'm at it I like to browse through
their awesome selection of clothes.

M: Conscious minded clothing with a conscious minded cause. Friendly (& handsome)

workers are always on deck to offer you a glass of water.

Cafe Dulce

Coffee & Tea, Bakeries, Cafes
134 Japanese Village Plz
Bldg E
Los Angeles, CA 90012

Neighborhood: Downtown

J: They make the best donuts! Pair the green tea donuts with their Hong Kong style milk tea for a great
summer snack

M: Pastry lovers' paradise! I recommend trying out the maple bacon if it's your first time. Hong Kong
iced tea is a must.

The Pie Hole

Desserts, Bakeries, Coffee & Tea
714 Traction Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90013

Neighborhood: Downtown

J: Located in the trendy downtown area, The Pie Hole is a great place to satisfy your sweet tooth.
They offer a range of savory and sweet pies--and some seasonal ones too. Made fresh daily, so if
they sell out, they sell out.

M: Mexican Chocolate is a must try! Intensely chocolately, with some spice notes and

mildy earthy notes. The equally thick Vanilla-infused whip cream carries trace specks of actual
vanilla bean.

Intelligentsia

Coffee & Tea
3922 W Sunset Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90029
Neighborhood: Silverlake

J: I love Intelligentsia! I always go for their lattes. My favorite place to sit is near the back as it gives
a great view for people watching. However, if it's a nice day out, sit outside!

M: Great spot to watch hipsters in their natural environment (lmao). Recommendations: Mochiatto,
thick & rich as any hot chocolate out there. If you can't appreciate this suck it up or go to Starbucks,
they have all the sugar and non-dairy milk you want.

Lamill

Coffee & Tea, New American
1636 Silver Lake Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90026
Neighborhood: Silverlake

J: I was introduced to Lamill by my friend Chanelle and I always find myself wanting to go back.
They make a killer steak salad and also offer a wide variety of coffee/drinks.

Mohawk General Store

Women's Clothing, Men's Clothing, Accessories
4011 W Sunset Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90029
Neighborhood: Silverlake
{ my post here }

J: Shopping heaven. They carry brands like A.P.C., Black Crane, Clare Vivier, Comme des Garcons
and Repetto to name a few. I'd buy everything in the store if only I had the $$$. Even if you're not
looking to spend a lot of cash the Mohawk General Store is definitely worth a visit.

M: Hipster Boutique. A variety of unique clothing items & accessories, that'll most likely break your
wallet, but it's worth a look!

Forage

American (New), Catering
3823 W Sunset Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90026
Neighborhood: Silverlake
{ my post here }

J: Cafeteria style. Choose what sounds good to you because there is literally no wrong choice

M: Their food is way beyond that point. Everything is fresh, flavorful and, I must say,
beautiful to look at (straight out of Kinfolk magazine)!

The Last Bookstore

Bookstores, Music Venues
453 S Spring St
Los Angeles, CA 90013
Neighborhood: Downtown

J: I can spend hours here! The Last Bookstore is one of the biggest, and not to mention most beautiful
bookstores in Los Angeles. Parking in the area is impossible but it's only a short walk away from
downtown's Little Tokyo. But avoid 5th street at any cost!

M:  I can't imagine not leaving this place without wanting to take something home to read! The second
floor offers an immense, random selection of $1 books, so feel free to splurge!

Jackson Market

Grocery, Sandwiches
4065 Jackson Ave
Culver City, CA 90232
Neighborhood: Culver City

J: Go for the sandwiches.

M: Great sandwich shop/grocery market nestled in a lovely little neighborhood. Be aware of lengthy
wait

Momed

Mediterranean, Vegetarian
233 S Beverly Dr
Beverly Hills, CA 90212
Neighborhood: Beverly Hills

J: Momed serves incredible Mediterranean food. Very Californian chic and very vegetarian friendly.
The restaurant is situated in a nice neighborhood in Beverly Hills, so walk around and check out the
stores before/after your meal.

M: To those who have Yelp accounts, always look around for great check-in deals, the
last couple times we got free Turkish delights and half off a glass of wine.

Getty Center

Museum, Art Galleries
1200 Getty Center Dr
Los Angeles, CA 90049
Neighborhood: Brentwood
{ my post here }

J: Next to Griffith Park, The Getty Center offers some of the best views of Los Angeles. The
architecture alone is so beautiful and it's a great place to spend an afternoon if you're looking to soak
in some culture. Admission is free but parking costs $15. The tram you have to take to get up to the
museum is always fun.

Gallery Nucleus

Art Galleries
210 E Main St
Alhambra, CA 91801
Neighborhood: Alhambra

J: I love how this gallery features art from young up and coming artists, both local and international.
Come for their artist panels, lovely store and themed exhibitions. You're guaranteed a good time!

M: Always keep yourself updated { link }, they have a constant rotation of special exhibits.
