ILLUSTRATION | misc sketchbook pages

Just some recent drawing from my moleskine. I've been trying to get back into sketching in the past couple weeks. I don't know what happened the last couple years, I used to enjoy sketching all the time when I was a kid/teenager but somehow that passion waned and I've been finding it very hard to want to pick up my moleskine to draw. I recently rediscovered that spark when I was on my trip to Europe but somehow it faded again when I got back home (buildings are just not as beautiful here :P). I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm determined to pick up that habit again - I miss it, and this summer is a good a time as any to start practicing again. Baby steps!

And if anyone's interested the rest of the pages from my sketchbook are up on my { sketch blog }

ILLUSTRATION | botanical mania

I got sort of lazy halfway through painting both pieces. This was painted not long after [ this piece ], and before that I haven't picked up a paint brush in months--maybe even a year? I went into a sort of botanical themed painting frenzy.

ILLUSTRATION | ensō

"In Zen Buddhism, an ensō is a circle that is hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create.

It is characterised by aminimalism born of Japanese aesthetics."

ILLUSTRATION | brassica in bloom

My old moleskine has finally retired after my excursion across Europe. The pages have been filled, and it's time to start anew. I picked up this little pocket sized moleskine in white when I was in Amsterdam and have been waiting for the right moment to start drawing in it.

SKETCH | buildings 001

I've been pushing myself to practice observational drawing lately because I'll probably be doing a lot of it when I'm touring Europe in the fall. My last trip to Europe I ended up sketching a lot less than I had intended to, but I plan on sticking to it this next time around--I promise!!!

In the meantime I've been using photos I found on Pinterest as references.

ILLUSTRATION | "mysteries"

“The Cosmos is all that is or was or ever will be. Our feeblest contemplations of the Cosmos stir us — there is a tingling in the spine, a catch in the voice, a faint sensation, as if a distant memory, of falling from a height. We know we are approaching the greatest of mysteries.”  - Carl Sagan
